Woman in Canada club threatens to "rip" Sikh man's turban
A Canadian woman heckled a Sikh man in a club over his turban, threatening to "rip off" the headgear and making racist comments. The incident took place on Wednesday at the Royal Canadian Legion in Tignish town of Prince Edward Island, CBC News said. Incidentally, though the management asked him to remove his turban, the club's policy exempts religious garments from the rule.
What happened?
Jaswinder Singh Dhaliwal was playing pool with friends at the Royal Canadian Legion, an ex-service organization that includes former members of the military. Suddenly, the management approached him, asking him to remove his turban according to its policy meant to show respect to veterans. In a video, a woman is purportedly heard threatening to "rip" it off, while another man makes an obscene gesture.
Club issues clarification, says plans to apologize
Legion president Stephen Gallant said there was confusion about whether the turban was a "religious garment." Members have since met to clarify the club policy and there are plans to apologize to those involved in the incident, he said.
