Canada: Pro-Khalistan chants interrupt Trudeau's speech at Khalsa Day Parade
What's the story
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's address at the Khalsa Day Parade in Toronto was interrupted by pro-Khalistan chants from the crowd.
The event, organized by the Ontario Sikhs and Gurdwara Council (OSGC), commemorates the establishment of the Sikh community in 1699 and celebrates the Sikh New Year.
Notably, during his speech, Trudeau reiterated his government's commitment to protecting the "rights and freedoms" of Canada's Sikh community.

Trudeau assures Sikhs of unwavering support against hatred, discrimination
Addressing nearly 800,000 Canadians of Sikh heritage, Trudeau assured them of his government's unwavering support against any form of hatred and discrimination.
He emphasized that Canada's strength lies in its diversity, which is celebrated rather than shunned.
The PM further reassured attendees about their constitutional right to freely practice their religion without fear.
He also mentioned measures being taken to bolster security at community centers and places of worship, including Gurdwaras.

Trudeau's talks about Canada's international relations with India
Trudeau touched upon Canada's international relations with India during his speech.
He highlighted a recent agreement negotiated by his government to increase air travel between the two nations.
This move is designed to facilitate more frequent visits for Canadians with family in India.
However, Trudeau's mention of India was solely related to enhanced air connectivity, despite the backdrop of tense diplomatic relations following the 2023 assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia.
