Prince Harry, Meghan Markle to wed on May 19, 2018
And we finally have a date! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will exchange marital vows in a private ceremony on May 19, 2018, at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, the Kensington Palace announced on Friday. From the service to music, flowers and the reception, the British Royal Family will pay for all the festivities, reported the BBC. Read on to know more.
The wedding breaks more than one royal tradition
This wedding marks a departure from the royal traditions in several ways. Organized on a Saturday, it's the first to be held on a weekend. Royal weddings are usually solemnized on weekdays. Queen Elizabeth II had hers on a Thursday and Prince William's on a Friday. It's also the first time that a British monarchy member is marrying an American and a divorcee.
Markle to be baptized into the Church of England
Since Markle is a Protestant, she will be baptized into the Church of England before the wedding. Most known for her role in 'Suits', she says she'd start with a "clean slate" as Prince Harry's wife. The two will live at Kensington Palace's Nottingham Cottage, after they're married. They will spend Christmas with the Queen at Sandringham. The couple announced their engagement in November.
