All 12 on-board Costa Rica plane killed in crash
All 10 American travellers on-board a flight as well as two local pilots died when it crashed into a mountain in Costa Rica. The victims included five members of a single family as well as a cousin of former President Laura Chinchilla. The reason for the crash is not known yet, but local officials said the plane had run into rough weather sometime earlier.
What happened?
The plane, operated by local company Nature Air, was travelling from Punta Islita to San José, the capital, about 225km east. It had encountered rough weather earlier when it was trying to land at Punta Islita, and had to return to another airport before it could eventually land there. The crash took place about 10 minutes after take-off.
Victims badly charred, identification ongoing
Authorities said they were focusing on recovering the badly burnt the bodies and verifying their identity. An investigation would be launched into the incident.
