Pentagon accidentally retweets a post calling for Trump's resignation
The US Department of Defense, AKA the Pentagon, is entrusted with the security of the US. Its boss, President Donald Trump, is a prolific Twitter user. The Pentagon should take a page of Trump's playbook by seriously upping its Twitter game. For one, it can start by not retweeting a tweet calling for its boss' resignation. Read on to know what happened.
Pentagon's retweet seen by 5.2mn followers, deleted soon afterwards
On Thursday, the official Department of Defense Twitter handle retweeted a tweet by @ProudResister, an anti-Trump activist, to its 5.2 million followers. The tweet called for Trump and two other politicians to step down over sexual harassment allegations. The tweet was deleted soon afterward. The Pentagon said an "authorized operator" of the Twitter handle "erroneously retweeted content that would not be endorsed" by it.
What the original tweet said
The tweet by @ProudResister said: "The solution is simple. Roy Moore: Step down from the race. Al Franken: Resign from Congress, Donald Trump: Resign from the presidency. GOP: Stop making sexual assault a partisan issue. It's a crime as is your hypocrisy."
Not surprisingly, a screenshot of the retweet went viral
"Uh someone made a mistake," one Twitter user posted. Following the Pentagon's clarification, some users called for the errant Department of Defense employee to be fired. "Looks like that ex-Twitter employee found a new gig at the Pentagon," another user tweeted, referring to how a Twitter employee recently deactivated Trump's account on the last day of his/her work.
