Yet another female artist killed in Pakistan
In yet another incidence of violence against women in Pakistan, a female singer was killed by three armed men for refusing to perform at a private event. The victim, 25-year-old Sumbul Khan, died on the way to the hospital after being fatally shot multiple times by the three perpetrators who broke into her home in the northwestern city of Mardan. Several stage actresses have been killed over the years
Sumbul Khan's murder comes just over a year after renowned Pakistani stage actress Kismat Baig was shot dead in Lahore in November 2016. Over the years, several Pakistani stage actresses - Nadra, Nagu, Yasmin, Naina, Nagina, Marvi, Karishma, Sangam, and Arzo - have been killed.
Sumbul Khan was shot when she tried to resist abduction
Sumbul Khan was a prominent personality, known for her roles in several Pakistani TV shows. The three perpetrators reportedly broke into Sumbul Khan's house to try and abduct her and get her to perform at a private party. When she resisted, the men got infuriated, shot her multiple times, and fled the scene of the murder.
One of the perpetrators have been arrested
Police official Saeed Khan said that one of the perpetrators, Naeem Khattak, was a former police officer. Khattak has been apprehended by the police for the murder. The other two perpetrators, identified as Jehangir Khan and Naseeb Khan in the murder report filed with the police, are still at large. The police are actively searching for them at the moment.
