Pakistan's first Sikh police officer forcibly evicted from his house
Pakistan's first Sikh police officer Gulab Singh Shaheen, in a video, has claimed that he was forcibly evicted from his home in Lahore's Dera Chahal village along with his children and wife, following a property dispute with the government. He said, he was evicted by Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB), the parent body of Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (PSGPC), Daily Pakistan reported. Here's more.
In 2011, Singh filed a case against then ETPB Chairman
"My turban was forced open and hair was untied," Singh said in the video. Singh pleaded to police to give him "at least 10 minutes" to be in the place where they have been staying since 1947. ETPB Secretary Tariq Wazir allegedly thrashed him. In 2011, Singh had filed a case against then ETBP Chairman Syed Asif Akhtar Hashmi for illegally selling Gurudwara property.
Singh was evicted after complete inquiry, claims ETPB
In February 2018, Supreme Court of Pakistan held Hashmi responsible for the illegal sale of Gurudwara lands. On the other hand, ETPB maintains Gulab Singh had illegally occupied the "Langar" Hall of Gurdwara Janum Asthan "Bebe Nanaki Dera Chahil", which was vacated by an anti-encroachment team on Tuesday. After a complete inquiry, ETPB got vacated the hall with the help of police, ETPB said.
What is Evacuee Trust Property Board?
Evacuee Trust Property Board, established in 1960, is a statutory body of Pakistan Government, which administers evacuee properties and shrines of Hindus and Sikhs attached to religious, charitable or educational trusts, left behind by Hindus/Sikhs who migrated to India after 1947 partition of India.
