Pakistan bans school books showing Kashmir in India
Pakistan has banned social studies books in private schools in Punjab province for showing Kashmir as a part of India in its map. The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) also lodged a complaint with Lahore police against the private schools and book publishers. Order to confiscate all these books from the private schools have been given to the Punjab province's district executive officers.
Notification says "controversial content" in Grade-II, IV, V, VII books
PCTB Managing Director Abdul Qayyum issued a notification yesterday regarding the issue. "The social studies books for Grade-II, IV, V, VII and VIII have controversial/objectionable contents, especially with reference to the Pakistan map showing Kashmir part of India", the notification says. The board said no person shall, except with the prior approval of the board, print, publish or sell in an institution any textbook.
New notification mentions strict rules for printing of material
The notification also states that the board shall not approve printing, publication or sale in an institution of any textbook or supplementary material which contains anything repugnant to the injunctions of Islam or to the integrity, defence or security of any part of Pakistan.
