Shooting took place at a commercial block of Canal street
The shooting took place at around 3:25 am on Sunday at a busy commercial block of Canal Street, that is close to many hotels. The police acted quickly as security was heightened in the area, due to the weekend's Bayou Classic, the annual Thanksgiving weekend rivalry football game between Grambling State and the Southern University, that is played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
We were unable to determine who was firing shots: Police
According to the New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Shaun Ferguson, "We had officers on that very block that thought they were being fired upon." "Unfortunately, there were so many people out here, we were unable to determine who was actually firing shots at the time," he added. The victims were subsequently taken to University Medical Center and Tulane Hospital. No police officers were injured.
