Netanyahu in India: Busy day for Israeli PM in Ahmedabad
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has landed in Ahmedabad on his fourth day in India. The day started with a roadshow from the airport to Sabarmati Ashram along with PM Narendra Modi. The next stop is at the iCreate centre at Bavla city. An item of interest is the "Gal-Mobile", a special gift from Netanyahu to Modi. In the evening, Netanyahu will leave for Mumbai.
Second PM to visit India since 2003
Netanyahu landed in Delhi along with wife Sara and a 130-member business delegation, the largest ever to travel with an Israeli PM on an international tour, for a six-day visit. This is the first India trip by an Israeli PM since 2003.
A roadshow, visit to Sabarmati Ashram and iCreate in plans
In Ahmedabad, Netanyahu and Modi began their roadshow at 11:30am. After visiting Sabarmati, they are heading to the iCreate campus. Modi will get a special gift from Netanyahu today: the "Gal-Mobile", a jeep-like machine that produces high-quality drinking water during natural disasters, crises, and emergency situations. The leaders will attend a live demonstration of sea water desalination via video conference from the iCreate centre.
Jews hope Netanyahu's visit will bring them minority benefits
The Jews in Gujarat are hoping Netanyahu's visit would "accelerate the process" for them getting minority status. Community leaders had requested a meeting with Netanyahu, but were denied due to security reasons. However, they have been allotted a special spot near Sabarmati during the roadshow.
Here's what Netanyahu did in the national capital
Netanyahu landed in Delhi on January 14. He visited the Rajghat and the Taj Mahal, attended the Raisina Dialogue and was given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. He held one-on-one talks with Modi and also met Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and President Ram Nath Kovind. The two countries signed nine MoUs in various sectors, including oil and gas, space and air transport.
And here's what's being planned in Mumbai
In Mumbai, Netanyahu will meet innovators and attend a business seminar. He will visit the Taj Hotel and Nariman House, where he will inaugurate a 26/11 memorial at the Chabad Center. There's a 'Shalom Bollywood' event planned, where he will meet eminent Bollywood personalities.
