'Definitely Nazi salute': Musk's estranged trans daughter on father's gesture
What's the story
Vivian Jenna Wilson, Elon Musk's estranged trans daughter, has said that her father's gestures at two rallies in January were "definitely a Nazi salute."
In a Teen Vogue interview, the 20-year-old said the things that the Tesla CEO has been doing in the federal government were "fucking cringe."
She also called her father's participation in the federal government "cartoonishly evil."
Estrangement
Wilson recounts her experience with Musk
Wilson made headlines last year after Musk said he was "tricked" into signing documents allowing Wilson to get gender-affirming medical treatment at 16.
"I lost my son, essentially. They call it 'deadnaming' for a reason," Musk had said, adding he vowed "to destroy the woke mind virus after that."
In a previous NBC News interview, Wilson described Musk as mostly absent in her childhood and often cruel for being feminine.
Mental health
Wilson opens up about her struggles
Wilson, who removed "Musk" from her name in 2022, said in court filings she "no longer live[s] with or wish[es] to be related to my biological father in any way shape or form."
She said she had to get Musk's approval for gender-affirming treatment as she was a minor then.
"I was constantly having mental breakdowns in the middle of class...If I stay in the closet anymore, this is going to take me down a very destructive path," she shared.
Advocacy
Wilson advocates for trans rights
Currently a student in Tokyo, Wilson said she feels the need to fight for trans rights because of what she has been through.
She lamented the demonization of transgender care for minors and its necessity.
"As a trans woman, I'm terrified of losing access to guaranteed medical care," she said. "If I didn't medically transition at the age I did, I don't know what would've happened."
Family ties
Wilson distances herself from Musk's family
When asked about her relationship with her siblings, Wilson confessed she didn't even know how many half-siblings she had.
"I will say I do not actually know how many siblings I have, if you include half-siblings," she said.
Unlike her father, who she claims was mostly missing when she was growing up, her mother, Justine Musk, has been supportive of her.
Justine is Musk's first wife; he has 14 children with four different women.
