Contestants report unsafe filming conditions on MrBeast's reality show set
YouTube sensation MrBeast is currently under scrutiny, for allegedly providing unsafe filming conditions and insufficient food and medical care during the production of his upcoming Amazon MGM Studios show, Beast Games. Over a dozen contestants from a preliminary event in July have anonymously reported their experiences to The New York Times. The event was held at Allegiant Stadium in Nevada, and filmed for MrBeast's YouTube channel as part of the selection process for main show filming later in Toronto, Canada.
Inadequate food and medical care
Contestants have claimed that they were not provided with adequate food or medical care during the filming of Beast Games. Some participants reportedly sustained injuries from the physical challenges. One competitor told The New York Times, "We signed up for the show, but we didn't sign up for not being fed or watered or treated like human beings." There were reports of people leaving the competition arena on stretchers and several hospitalizations for seemingly minor injuries.
Complaints about medication distribution and competitor numbers
Participants also alleged the food was limited to two meals a day and didn't accommodate dietary restrictions. Some contestants claimed that their medications were not distributed on time. Others reported waiting hours or even days to receive clean underwear that they had supplied to production staff as instructed. Participants also felt misled about the number of competitors; they thought it was 1,000 people competing for the show's $5 million prize rather than 2,000 contestants who attended the July event.
MrBeast's representative disputes allegations
A representative for MrBeast has disputed these allegations, stating that three meals were provided each day with multiple options to meet dietary needs. In response to the complaints about filming conditions and competitor numbers, a spokesperson for MrBeast stated that the promotional video shoot was complicated by extreme weather and other unexpected logistical and communications issues. They added that they are currently reviewing these issues and have communicated directly with 97% of the attendees to ask for feedback.
Contestants continue despite poor conditions
Despite the alleged conditions, many contestants stayed in hopes of winning the grand prize. Those who made it through the preliminary challenges in July are now preparing for next event in Toronto. Some contestants, despite being nervous about their safety, still plan to continue to the next stage. The stakes for Beast Games are high not only for the contestants but also for MrBeast himself, as this show marks his expansion beyond YouTube into mainstream entertainment with Amazon Prime Video.
