Melania Trump wears "Don't care" coat while visiting migrant kids
What's the story
United States of America's First Lady Melania Trump was caught in the eye of a storm after she chose to wear a trench coat that read "I really don't care, do you?" while paying a visit to Texas's migrant child detention centre.
Earlier, Donald Trump's wife spoke about reuniting kids with their families. Contradicting her earlier emotions, her coat was termed distasteful.
The coat
The coat Melania wore cost just $39
The coat is tailored by Zara and costs just $39. Netizens were quick to find out the price and pointed out multi-millionaires don't wear such items.
They said it was a deliberate choice and Melania should have been more thoughtful.
Melania's spokesperson claimed there was no hidden meaning, but people on Twitter weren't buying it.
The reactions
Melania's choice of jacket is shameful, says immigration advocate
Immigration advocate David Leopold said he assumed the photo was tampered with when he first saw it. "It mocks the mothers who have lost their children and it mocks those babies we heard wailing on that tape," he said as he called it shameful.
Donald Trump's zero-tolerance immigration policy left more than 2,000 kids in detention centres as their parents were criminally prosecuted.
Twitter Post
Melania's past choices of attires were dug out
Melania Trump wore $51,000 floral coat in Italy, $5,500 crimson coat at the G20 and a $1,400 flannel shirt while gardening, but her “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” jacket she wore just before meeting with migrant children costs just $39 at Zara. Information
Thankfully, Melania Trump didn't wear the jacket while meeting kids
For humanity's sake, Melania didn't don the jacket while she visited the detention centre (thankfully). She wore it again when she de-boarded in Maryland for the White House. By then, it had been hours since the jacket was in news, and she fanned it more.
Whom to believe
Melania's spokesperson says no 'hidden message', President claims otherwise
After the row, President came to his wife's rescue and said it was a message for 'fake news outlets'.
Refuting Melania's spokesperson claim that it didn't have a hidden message, Trump tweeted, "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?" written on the back of Melania's jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!"
The choice
Let's not forget, Melania is a former model
A former model, Melania has a history of gaining attention through her sartorial choices.
Sometimes not in a positive way, though. Last year, while visiting areas affected by Hurricane Harvey, Melania chose to wear towering stilettos. She was criticized back then too.
Knowing her visit to the detention centre would be seen by the world, opting for this jacket doesn't seem like an honest mistake.
