Meghan, Harry's charity donated $600k to Democrat-linked causes: Report
What's the story
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Archewell Foundation has reportedly funneled more than $600,000 toward causes linked to the Democratic Party.
The New York Post examined public records showing large donations to people and organizations affiliated with the Democrats.
The foundation donated $146,500 in 2023 to Jiore Craig, a media strategist known for her work on disinformation issues with Democrats.
Donation details
Archewell's donations to Democratic-aligned figures and organizations
Craig has served in senior roles at Greenberg, Quinlan, and Rosner, a firm that has worked on the biggest Democratic campaigns since Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential win.
The Archewell Foundation also contributed $25,000 to the Marcy Lab School in Brooklyn after Craig joined its board in 2024.
Craig received another $120,000 from the foundation in 2022.
Nonprofit funding
Archewell's contributions to democratic donor-supported nonprofit
Further, the foundation donated $90,000 to Markup News Inc., a nonprofit funded by Democratic donor George Soros's Open Society Foundations and Craigslist founder Craig Newmark.
The biggest donation of $250,000 was given to Women's Wellness Space in Pennsylvania, an organization founded by President Joe Biden's daughter Ashley Biden. The organization works to support women impacted by trauma.
Donation controversy
Criticism and defense of Archewell's donations
The donations have attracted criticism from conservatives such as Nile Gardiner of the Heritage Foundation.
Gardiner claimed that "Harry and Meghan still retain royal titles and should not be engaging in any way in political activity."
However, a spokesperson for the couple defended their actions, saying: "It's important to note The Duke and Duchess did not endorse any candidate in the [2024 presidential] election."
Political speculation
Speculation about Meghan Markle's political ambitions
Speculation about Meghan's political ambitions has been fueled by her past meetings with prominent Democrats like Governor Kathy Hochul and former Mayor Bill de Blasio. Reports also suggest a private video call with California Governor Gavin Newsom took place in 2021.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has been openly critical of Prince Harry and Meghan. When asked about allegations regarding Harry's US visa application, Trump remarked: "I'll leave him alone. He's got enough problems with his wife."
