US: 26 shot-dead in Texas church in another mass-shooting incident
Gun violence seems to be spiralling out of control in the US. It has claimed numerous lives in recent times. In yet another mass shooting incident, a gunman reportedly opened fire inside a church in San Antonio, Texas killing at least 26 people and injuring several others. This happens as the US is still recovering from the horrific Las Vegas shooting incident. Here's more.
What happened?
The gunman entered the church and opened fire at the local community which had gathered there for the regular Sunday morning service and a funeral. He was later chased away by a civilian armed with a rifle and was found dead in his vehicle. Authorities, including the FBI rushed to the scene shortly and the injured people were transported to nearby hospitals.
What do we know about the gunman?
The authorities have informally identified the shooter to be 26-year old Devin Kelly, a San Antonio native who served with the US Air Force from 2010-2014. They further revealed that he doesn't appear to be linked to any terrorist organizations. His motive remains currently unknown.
What about casualties?
Speaking at a news conference, an official revealed that the deceased people were aged between 5-72. Among those dead are the church pastor Frank Pomeroy's 14-year old daughter. While 23 were found dead in the church, 2 were found outside and 1 died on his way to the hospital. According to sources, "multiple victims are being treated for gunshot wounds."
