Man injects semen for 18 months to cure back pain
In a bizarre attempt, a man in Ireland tried to cure his chronic back pain by injecting himself with a dose of his own semen every month, for the last one and a half years. Naturally, the unusual method did not work and in turn, landed him in a hospital with severe back pain and a swollen arm. Here's what went down.
He bought needle online, injected himself with semen every month
When the unnamed man could no longer bear his chronic back pain, he made a decision without any medical advice. He bought a needle online and injected himself with a monthly dose of his semen for 18 months. His case came to light when he went to Tallaght University Hospital, Dublin days after lifting a heavy object. Needless to say, the doctors were flabbergasted.
Semen leaked into soft tissues, X-ray shows air trapped underneath
Pain in the man's lower back had gotten worse and his right arm, where he injected his semen multiple times had turned red and swollen. An X-ray showed air trapped underneath because the semen had leaked into the soft tissues. His case report was recently published in the Irish Medical Journal, titled- 'Semenly' Harmless Back Pain: An Unusual Presentation of Subcutaneous Abscess.
Man's back improved after doctors gave him antimicrobial medicine
In the report, the doctors wrote, "This is the first reported case of semen injection for use as a medical treatment." Fortunately, after doctors gave the man some antimicrobial medicine, his back improved during his stay in the hospital. However, doctors warned that one should not inject one's veins with substances that are not meant for such purposes. Duh!
Animals have been injected with semen, but not humans
Coming to facts, researchers have injected semen into animals such as rats and rabits, but there have been no cases of doing the same with humans. However, there has been plenty of research on injecting one's veins with dangerous substances like mercury, gasoline, lighter fluid, and hydrochloric acid to commit suicide. But doctors found no medical literature about injecting semen to cure back pain.
Previously, US man injected himself with experimental herpes treatment
The reason why the man tried to inject his own semen in his body was not given in the report. But, this is not the first case where people tried incredibly weird methods to treat themselves. Last year, Aaron Traywick, a controversial biohack engineer injected himself with experimental herpes treatment during a Facebook Live at a conference in Austin in the United States.
Traywick died months after his act in a spa-room
Traywick did not survive for long. Months after his act, he was found dead in a therapy tank inside a spa room in Washington, DC. His cause of death could not be determined but the police did not suspect foul play.
