After murdering wife, Cambodian man broadcasts suicide on Facebook live
21-year-old Ra Chhay Rath, recently killed his former wife at a school, and then committed suicide by jumping into Mekong river, Cambodia. Rath recorded his suicide on Facebook and police are investigating the reason for killing his wife. Facebook took down the live video and said the company was deeply saddened by the tragedy. It was not immediately clear whether a Facebook user reported the video.
Police shocked with first-of-its-kind crime
According to Cambodian authorities, this is the first time a crime of this kind has happened. The police have not found the man's body, reported Reuters. Nearly one-third of Cambodia population (15.8 million) uses Facebook. In an email to the news agency, Facebook said they work with organizations around the world to help those in distress and want users to have a safe experience.
Shockingly, many incidents have been recorded on Facebook live
Recently, a Thai man shot himself in the head, on Facebook live, after an argument with his girlfriend. 37-year-old Naphattarakul Phachayakan's girlfriend complained about his boozing habits with friends. In yet another incident, in 2017, a Mumbai youth jumped from Taj Lands hotel and recorded it on Facebook live. A student of Narsee Monjee College, the deceased broke the window and leapt out of the room.
