What's the story
On the first of his two-day state visit to Mauritius, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted a range of unique presents to President Dharambeer Gokhool and First Lady Vrinda Gokhool.
He gifted holy water from the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, superfood makhana from Bihar, and a Lord Ganesha idol, and also presented Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cards to the couple.

Banarasi saree and sadeli box for First Lady
The First Lady of Mauritius got a Banarasi saree in a Sadeli box from PM Modi.
The famous Banarasi saree from Varanasi is renowned for its rich silk, elaborate brocades, and opulent zari work. This one is royal blue with silver zari motifs, a broad zari border, and a richly detailed pallu.
The Sadeli box from Gujarat is known for its intricate inlay work and is used to store precious items like sarees or jewelry.

PM Modi attends Mauritius National Day celebrations
PM Modi attended the Mauritius National Day celebrations as chief guest, showcasing the strong diplomatic and cultural ties that India shares with Mauritius.
At a special lunch hosted by President Gokhool, he thanked him for their warm hospitality and reiterated India's commitment to its enduring partnership with Mauritius.
Earlier in the day, Modi was greeted in Mauritius with a traditional Bihari welcome, including a "geet gawai" ceremony.

PM Modi's visit to strengthen bilateral relations
During his visit, PM Modi will meet Mauritius's top leadership and sign several pacts. These will deal with cooperation in capacity building, trade, and tackling cross-border financial crimes.
Before leaving, Modi expressed hope his visit would bring in a "new and bright" chapter in India-Mauritius ties. He highlighted deep mutual trust and shared values of democracy as strengths of both nations.
