Powerful magnitude-6.0 earthquake strikes Iranian city of Kerman
A magnitude-6.0 earthquake has struck Iran near the city of Kerman, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It struck at a shallow depth of 10km, around 58km northeast of Kerman, which has a population of over 800,000 people. "A magnitude-6.0 quake is considered strong and is capable of causing severe damage," Reuters has reported. So far, there are no reports of casualties or destruction.
Magnitude-7.3 earthquake hit Iran-Iraq border last month, killed 540 people
The magnitude-6.0 earthquake was followed by a magnitude 5.0 aftershock. This follows a deadly magnitude-7.3 earthquake which struck the Iran-Iraq border on November 12 that killed at least 540 people and injured 8,000 others.
