iPhone tombstone: Late Russian woman buried under iPhone-shaped headstone
Cicero said, "The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living." True, losing a loved one is hard and it's their memories that keep them alive. But for some, it's their iPhone. In one such case, a grieved father in Ufa, Russia has erected a massive iPhone headstone above his late 25-year-old daughter, Rita Shameev's burial spot. Here's why.
It has a picture of Rita as its 'screensaver'
Rita died in January 2016 due to unknown causes. Made from basalt, the 5ft huge headstone carries all the features of an actual iPhone, starting from home, volume buttons to an Aapple logo at its back. But, the most eye-catching part is a picture of late Rita as the 'screensaver' on the headstone. Maybe that's the way she wanted it.
Rita was a traveler, loved her phone
People of Ufa were amazed to see a giant iPhone in the cemetery. A mourner said, "I thought I was having hallucinations. How could an American smartphone suddenly appear at our cemetery? And such a huge one." Very little is known about Rita except that she was a keen traveler and had friends from Germany. And that she loved her phone.
Company which designed the tombstone, held its exhibition in 2016
The unusual headstone design is, however, not that unusual as one may think. The brain behind the design is a Siberian designer Pavel Kalyuk. Kalyuk works for a laser engraving company 'Autograph', which had, in 2016, held a funeral exhibition of such iPhone tombstones or 'tele-Tombstones' in Novosibirsk. So apparently, you can now take your cellphones to the afterlife!
