Would've thrown demonetization-proposal in dustbin if I were PM: RaGa
Congress President Rahul Gandhi today said demonetization was "not a good" initiative while interacting with a gathering of the Indian diaspora in Kuala Lumpur. He further said, "If I was the Prime Minister and somebody would have given me a file with demonetization written on it, I would (have) thrown it in the dustbin, out of the door, and into the junkyard." Demonetization was not good at all, says Congress President
When asked how he would have rolled out demonetization differently, Gandhi said he would have thrown it in the dustbin. "That is how I would have rolled it (demonetization) out because that is what I think should have been done with the demonetization which was not good at all," he said in a video shared by the Congress party on its official Twitter handle.
Rahul Gandhi is visiting Southeast Asian nations
Rahul Gandhi is currently on a five-day trip to the Southeast Asian countries. The Congress President began the Malaysia leg of his visit today and has interacted with an "enthusiastic gathering" of the Indian diaspora in Kuala Lumpur.

The demonetization initiative was rolled out by PM Narendra Modi on 8 Nov'16, announcing the invalidation of high-value currency notes currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000. Congress has strongly criticized demonetization, saying it has led to an economic slowdown. Rahul Gandhi earlier said PM Modi caused "tremendous damage" to India's economy with his "reckless and dangerous" decisions like demonetization and "hastily-applied" GST.
"Don't treat women equal to men, but better than men"
On women empowerment, Gandhi said equality was not "good enough" for women empowerment. He said: "I don't treat women equal to men, but better than men. There is a bias in all societies, including in western society...that bias needs to be corrected. To correct that bias, equality is not good enough; you have to be partial to women and give them more support."
Gandhi discusses India-Singapore ties with PM Loong
Rahul Gandhi addressed a gathering of young professionals at IYCON in Kuala Lumpur. His trip is part of Congress party's efforts to connect with the diaspora. He called on Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong and discussed a wide range of topics related to India-Singapore ties.
RaGa expected to visit Dubai, Canada later this year
Rahul Gandhi's trip is being organized by the AICC Overseas cell headed by technocrat Sam Pitroda, who helped former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi lead the IT revolution in India. Pitroda had earlier successfully organized the Congress President's visits to the US and West Asia. Later in the year, the Congress president is also expected to travel to Dubai and Canada.
Rahul meets Malaysian Indian Congress Chief
"Met Mr. Subramaniam Sathasivam, President of the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), in Kuala Lumpur. Originally a part of the AICC until 1946, the MIC has played a major role in the Malaysian Independence Movement," Rahul Gandhi wrote on Facebook.
