Joe Biden 'most unpopular US President' in 7 decades
Ahead of the United States presidential polls slated to be held in November, President Joe Biden has emerged as the least favored president in seven decades, a recent Gallup poll has said. The survey revealed that Biden's job approval rating is a mere 38.7%, significantly lower than his predecessors Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter. In contrast, former President Donald Trump secured a higher approval rating of 46.8%. Nixon and Carter had job approval ratings of 53.7% and 47.7% respectively.
Eisenhower tops as most admired president since 1952
The Gallup poll also highlighted that the most admired president since 1952 has been Dwight Eisenhower, who achieved an impressive approval rating of 73.2%. The survey underscored a trend where every sitting US president with an approval rating above 50% typically gets re-elected. However, Barack Obama was an exception to this rule, winning his second term in 2012 despite having a 46% approval rating six months before the elections.
Trump's presidency viewed more favorably than Biden's
According to a report by The New York Post, no first-term president has ever won re-election after receiving as low an approval ranking as Biden's in the Gallup poll. Biden is currently grappling with skyrocketing inflation and one of the most severe border crises in US history. His presidency is also marked by the contentious aftermath of the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Concerns have been raised about his effectiveness as a US president due to his advancing age.
