Trump's 'America First', Modi's 'Make-in-India' not mutually exclusive: Ivanka
US President Donald Trump's advisor Ivanka Trump is on her maiden visit to India for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2017. Ivanka, who's leading an American delegation of officials and businessmen, will deliver the keynote address at the Summit scheduled in Hyderabad from November 28-30. Before her visit, she said Trump's "America First" and Indian PM Narendra Modi's "Make in India" aren't mutually exclusive.
'US-India collaboration a win-win for both'
Explaining the 'America First' idea, Ivanka said, "Most governments prioritize people of their country, but not in a vacuum." "This year's GES is testament to strong the partnership between India and US," Ivanka said of the two co-hosts. She added the Trump regime is committed to strong association and collaboration with India for a mutually beneficial relationship.
Ivanka Trump's itinerary during the GES
On November 28, Ivanka will address the GES inaugural session at Hyderabad International Convention Centre. She will follow it up with a dinner hosted by Modi at Taj Falaknuma. On November 29, she will speak on "Women First, Prosperity for All". She is also likely to attend an AR Rahman concert and do some sightseeing. Ivanka will be accompanied by husband Jared Kushner.
Hyderabad courts controversy while trying to woo Ivanka
Hyderabad has gone all out to give Ivanka top facilities on her first India visit, including a five-tier security ring of top American and Indian personnel. However, there was controversy over reports that Hyderabad police had banned begging in the city during November 8-January 7, 2018, and shifted about 1,000 alms-seekers to jail-ashrams. Ivanka's aides referred questions on it to the state government.
Deepika drops out of GES amid Padmavati row
Meanwhile, amid violent threats over 'Padmavati', Deepika Padukone has dropped out of the GES; she was expected to speak at a session on 'Hollywood to Nollywood to Bollywood: The Path to Moviemaking' on November 29. Ironically, this year's GES is themed on women's entrepreneurship.
