Missile fired at Israel from Yemen, sirens sound across cities
A surface-to-surface missile was launched from Yemen toward central Israel on Sunday, according to the Israeli military. The missile reportedly hit an uninhabited area and did not result in any casualties. Prior to the impact, air raid sirens were activated in Tel Aviv and other parts of central Israel, prompting residents to seek shelter.
Missile interceptors launched, no change in protective guidelines
The Israeli military confirmed that the loud explosions heard in the region were from missile interceptors that had been deployed. However, they emphasized that there has been no change to their protective guidelines for residents. "Following the sirens...a surface-to-surface missile was identified crossing into central Israel from the east and fell in an open area. No injuries were reported," stated the military.
Previous attack by Iran-aligned Houthis from Yemen
This incident follows a similar attack in July when Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen launched a long-range drone at Tel Aviv. That attack resulted in one fatality and four injuries. In response, Israel conducted a significant airstrike on Houthi targets near Yemen's Hodeidah port, leading to three deaths and 87 injuries. The strike was startling because the drone appeared to cross through much of the country, bypassing the sophisticated air defenses that had intercepted nearly all of Houthi drones and rockets.
