Indian-origin UK resident sentenced for murdering his ex-wife
An Indian-origin man in the UK who was on trial for murdering his ex-wife has been sentenced to a minimum of 18 years in prison. The accused, Ashwin Daudia, said that he didn't intend to attack his ex-wife, Kiran Daudia, but "lost control" due to anger. The court, however, didn't accept Daudia's version and sentenced him for murder.
Ashwin and Kiran were living separate lives under one roof
Ashwin Daudia married Kiran in an arranged marriage in India in 1988. The couple got divorced in 2014, but continued living separate lives under the same roof. The couple has two sons, both of whom chose to "side" with their mother after the divorce. Daudia was supposed to move out of the couple's home in Leicester on 16th January, when he killed his ex-wife.
CCTV footage caught Daudia dumping his wife's body
Ashwin Daudia claims that his murderous rage was triggered when his ex-wife swore at him for not moving out and asked him to go and die in India. After strangling Kiran, Daudia dragged the body in a suitcase and dumped it in an alleyway. The police found the body a day later, and subsequently, Daudia was identified from CCTV footage and apprehended.
The court dismissed Daudia's claims of losing control
During the two-week-long trial, Daudia admitted in court that he had lied to the police, his two sons, and his relatives, and had told them that Kiran hadn't returned home from work. The court dismissed Daudia's claims of losing control, and held that the murder was out of spite for Kiran, who had recently joined a dating agency to meet other men.
