Indian-origin student feared drowned while vacationing in Dominican Republic

Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old student of Indian origin who went missing on her spring break vacation to the Dominican Republic, is believed to have died by drowning, ABC News reported.
Konanki was studying at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, US.
According to the New York Post, she went missing on March 6 while on a beach outing in Punta Cana with her friends.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) confirmed they were notified of her disappearance on Thursday evening.

Sudiksha last seen at Riu Republica Resort
According to Defensa Civil, a search and rescue organization based in the Dominican Republic, Konanki was last seen on March 6 at the beach of Riu Republica Resort.
She was one of six female students from Pittsburgh, including another Loudoun County resident.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) confirmed the group had been traveling together when Konanki disappeared.

Police report
At some point, most of the group went back to the hotel during the night, but one person stayed with Konanki on the beach, according to a Dominican Republic investigative police report.
According to the police report, she and her companion decided to take a dip in the ocean, but their fun quickly turned into an adventure when a massive wave suddenly crashed over them.

Search operations conclude
Konanki was last seen on beach security cameras at around 4:15 a.m. on March 6, according to the Dominican Republic Public Ministry.
Defensa Civil had started a search on Saturday evening but suspended it around 8:00pm.
Officials stated that the friends of the missing student, who were with her close to the time of her disappearance, have been questioned by police but have not been charged with any crime.
