Five Indian-origin men have been sentenced to jail terms and caning in Singapore for their involvement in a riot that led to the death of a former bouncer.
The sentences range from two to three years of imprisonment and two to six strokes of the cane.
The incident occurred at the Concorde Hotel and Shopping Mall in 2023, Channel News reported.
Sentencing breakdown
Details of the sentences and charges
Sridharan Elangovan was handed the harshest sentence of 36 months in jail and six strokes of the cane.
Manojkumar Velayanatham and Raja Rishi were both sentenced to 30 months imprisonment and four strokes each.
Meanwhile, Puthenvilla Keith Peter was handed a 26-month jail term and three strokes, while Sashikumar Pakirsamy was sentenced to 24 months with two strokes.

Elangovan, Velayanatham, and Pakirsamy were also identified as members of a secret society group.
Another person involved in the incident, Asvain Pachan Pillai Sukumaran, is facing a murder charge for allegedly killing former bouncer Mohammad Isrrat Mohd Ismail.
Six more men aged between 25 and 33 were named as co-accused participants in the riot.

Incident details and victim's identity
The riot took place on August 19, 2023, at Club Rumours inside the Concorde Hotel and Shopping Mall.
Isrrat and his friend Muhammad Shahrulnizam Osman, former bouncers of the club and members of another secret society, had come to deliver Isrrat's wedding invitation card to the staff.
A verbal altercation ensued around 6:00am as the club was closing, during which Isrrat was stabbed multiple times.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
