Indian-American teen wins popular US quiz show, wins Rs. 68L
Avi Gupta, an Indian-American teen, has won more than Rs. 68L after nailing America's most-popular individual quiz show, Jeopardy!. The episode of 2019 Teen Jeopardy was aired on June 28, where Avi defeated two other competitors. He is planning to spend most of the money on his education, and would also donate some to his student-run non-profit organization, Project32, which he founded in 2016.
Can't express how grateful and fortunate I feel, says Avi
While talking to media agencies, Avi said, "It still feels unreal, and I honestly can't express how grateful and fortunate I feel to have had this opportunity." "Jeopardy! has always been a huge part of my life and my family's life; it is a special bonding connection with my grandma, who is a huge fan of the show," the teen further informed.
"Semifinal experience was invaluable, felt like a more experienced competitor"
Avi believes that playing a tough semifinal round helped him develop his strategy of keeping the momentum up for the finals. "Even though my knowledge base hadn't changed, the semifinal experience was invaluable, and I felt like a better, more experienced competitor," he said. Ryan Presler and Lucas Miner were named first and second runner-ups with Rs. 34L and Rs. 17L prizes respectively.
Could see the effort he has put in: Mother
Although the show was aired recently, Avi was still in high school in Oregon, when the show was recorded weeks ago. He will be attending Columbia University this fall. Meanwhile, his mother, Nandita gushed, "I could see the effort he has put in throughout the year, I wanted to just have him a happy wholesome experience. And the win was the cherry on top."
