In a major goof-up, Pakistani tableau features Red Fort
The world knows that Pakistan claims Jammu and Kashmir as its territory. But Delhi's Red Fort? In an embarrassing gaffe, organizers of a Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) event in Beijing showed the Red Fort with the Indian flag as Lahore's Shalimar Gardens on a Pakistani tableau. Both Indian and Pakistani diplomats pointed out the mistake to organizers who then apologized.
Event highlighted India and Pakistan's recent entry into SCO
The SCO headquarters in Beijing was hosting a reception to highlight India and Pakistan's recent entry into the organization. The event was attended by Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, Indian ambassador to China Vijay Gokhale, Pakistani Ambassador Masood Khalid and diplomats from other SCO member countries. SCO officials said they failed to double check the photos as the event involved India and Pakistan.
Ceremony to mark India and Pakistan's entry into SCO
India and Pakistan's entry into the SCO will be marked by the raising of the Indian and Pakistani flags at the headquarters. Indian Ambassador Gokhale and Pakistani Ambassador Khalid will beat a drum to herald their entry. The SCO, a grouping seen as a NATO competitor, now has China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan as member countries.
