UN, India will step up cooperation in counter-terrorism: Antonio Guterres
India is an "important partner" of the United Nations in countering terrorism, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, adding there are plans to step up the cooperation between the two in combating terror financing. Guterres, who will begin a three-day visit to India today, said implementation of acts of terrorism transcend borders and it's the responsibility of all Member States to take action against it.

"The threat of radicalization and terrorism continues to persist and grow in many parts of the world. Modern-day terrorists are savvy in both technology and social media, successfully propagating the narrative of hate and violence to recruit young people and raise funds," Guterres said.
Guterres lauds India's contribution to UN Trust Fund for Counter-Terrorism
The Government of India's recent contribution to the United Nations Trust Fund for Counter-Terrorism will support the execution of capacity-building projects by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, Guterres said. The Indian Government had this year announced a voluntary contribution of $550,000 (approx. Rs. 4 crore) to support the work of the newly established United Nations Office for Counter-Terrorism (OCT).
The new UN office aims to help UN's counter-terrorism efforts
The recently-established United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism is tasked to provide strategic leadership and coordination to UN counter-terrorism efforts. The UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy provides a solid framework for such joint action (like India-UN) while asking all Member States to respect international human rights law.
UN to find multilateral solutions to complex global challenges: Guterres
Guterres noted that though the primary responsibility lies with the Member States of UN, the UN Secretariat is fully committed to supporting efforts to tackle terrorism and to helping find multilateral solutions to complex global challenges. "The Organization will also enhance its efforts in support of Member States' developing effective counter-terrorism strategies, through capacity building support and mobilization of much-needed resources," he said.
