In an encouraging news, the Hindu community has turned out to be the most educated among 30 religious groups in the United States, according to 2014 Religious Landscape Study by Pew Research Center. Pew, which is based in Washington DC, used the four-year college degree as the marker, saying it is generally regarded as the key asset for economic success. Here's more on this.
Hindus were followed by Unitarians, Jews, and Anglicans
Hindus had the largest share of the four-year college degrees, i.e., 77%. They were followed by Unitarian Universalists, a religious group that says it has no creed and draws inspiration from a range of sacred sculptures with 67% of college degrees. Jews and Anglicans shared the third spot at 59% and Episcopal church rounded off the top five with 56%.
Muslims stood at 39% and Catholics at 26%
Community with non-believers of God, the atheists and agnostics accounted for 43% and 42% respectively. Muslims stood at 39% and Catholics at 26% in the list. 0.7% of US population, 325mn people, can be estimated to be Hindus, according to a 2014 study of Pew. However, US doesn't keep official population strength based on religion.
36% Hindus, 44% Jews have Rs. 70cr as annual income
Over 35,000 US adults were surveyed for the study. The report also said that "given the strong correlation between educational attainment and economic success, it's not surprising that Hindus and Jews, on an average, have high household incomes." It added that four in 10 Jews (44%) and 36% Hindus are living in households with annual incomes of at least $100,000 or Rs. 70 crore.
