Employers fire cyclist who showed middle-finger to Trump's motorcade
A picture of a female cyclist flipping US President Donald Trump's motorcade had recently gone viral. The cyclist, identified as Julie Briskman, has now been fired from her job for doing so. How did the photo go viral?
The photo of Briskman flipping Trump's motorcade was captured by a White House photographer who was traveling with the convoy. News outlets were quick to pick up this interesting, quirky and yet symbolic click from the White House pool report. Several late night talk show hosts further focused on the picture after which social media widely started hailing her using #Her2020.
What she was thinking while flipping off the president?
Speaking recently on what prompted her to flipping off Trump, Briskman said "He was passing by and my blood just started to boil, I'm thinking, DACA recipients are getting kicked out. ....only one-third of Puerto Rico has power."
Briskman gets fired!
Briskman was fired after she conveyed to her employers, Virginia-based Akima LLC,that she was the cyclist in the photograph. Her bosses dismissed her stating that she had violated the company's social media policy by using "obscene" image in question as her profile picture on Twitter and Facebook. According to Briskman, Akima told her that being a government contractor, the photo could hurt their business.
Briskman says she has no regrets
In a recent interview, Briskman stated that she had no regrets and that she was happy to be "a symbol of protest." "I'm angry about where our country is right now.This was an opportunity for me to say something," she added.
