Gunmen storm Kabul TV station, casualties feared
A number of gunmen have attacked a private TV station in Kabul. Several casualties are feared after the attackers threw grenades and opened fire to forcibly enter the headquarters of Shamshad TV. Security personnel have launched operations at the building, which is believed to house over 100 employees. The Taliban has denied responsibility for the attack. It remains unclear who is behind the attack.
What we know about the attack so far
"Some of my colleagues were killed and injured. I managed to escape," said Hashmat Istankzai, a reporter for Shamshad TV, a Pashto-language channel. Gunfire can still be heard from inside the building, witnesses said. The Kabul police said Afghan forces have killed one of the attackers. It remains unclear how many attackers are involved and how many people have been killed or injured.
Afghanistan is one of the most unsafe country for journalists
The TV channel went off the air when the attack started and isx transmitting only a still image. Kabul has repeatedly come under attack in recent months by a resurgent Taliban and an increasingly popular ISIS. Afghanistan is among the world's most dangerous countries for journalists.
