China: Second pipeline blast of the week, five killed
At least five people were killed and 89 injured in a blast in a gas pipeline in northeastern China's Jilin province on July 4. The mishap happened at 2:45pm when workers were repairing a leak in the pipeline in Songyuan city. This was the second such deadly attack of the week. Two days earlier, eight died in a similar incident in Guizhou.
Owner of the pipeline yet unknown
The official Xinhua news agency said the blast had also 'affected' patients and staff at a nearby hospital without giving more details. It didn't name the owner of the pipeline either. The earlier mishap took place at a China National Petroleum Corp pipeline. Rescue operations were underway. Meanwhile, an investigation has also been launched.
