'Fuck off back to India': Irish woman goes on rant
An Irish woman's abusive rant was posted on Twitter and has gone viral, in which she is heard calling fellow train passengers a "disgrace" and telling them to "fuck off back to India". The incident happened on April 17 on a train from Limerick Colbert station to Limerick Junction, when some Asian passengers were verbally abused for keeping a bag on an empty seat.
What happened?
Twitter user 'TheBexWay', who posted the videos, said the rant went on for over 20 minutes. The Asian passengers are heard trying to reason with her as she shouts at them to "respect my fucking country". When another passenger tries to intervene, she targets him too, saying, "That's the only reason he's backing you all, cuz he's ugly." TheBexWay reported the passengers left after 16 minutes.
Abuse won't be tolerated on our services, says Irish Rail
Irish Rail has reported the incident to the Gardai, Ireland's police force. A spokesman told the Irish Independent that such incidents will not be tolerated. "People should be able to travel on our services without abuse of any kind. The footage is very shocking and we welcome the fact that another member of the public was able to assist in identifying the person."
Racist incidents on the rise in Europe
A March 2017 study by the European Network against Racism Ireland said the there were 245 reported incidents of racism in the last six months - an increase of 55 from the previous period.
