Paris: Iran Embassy cordoned off over suicide-bomb threat
The Iranian embassy in Paris was put on high alert and cordoned off by French law enforcement officials on Friday following a potential bomb threat. The security measures were initiated after an eyewitness reported seeing a suspicious individual entering the embassy, armed with an explosive device. He reportedly threatened to blow himself up. The man has now been arrested by police, a police source told Reuters.
Rising tensions between Iran and Israel
It was unclear whether the incident was related to the rising tensions between Iran and Israel. Tension between the two neighboring countries has been on the rise since April 1, when suspected Israeli warplanes hit the Iranian consulate in Damascus, killing seven Iranians, including its Quds Force Commander, Major General Mohammad Reza Zahedi. Iran attacked the Jewish nation two weeks later, firing over 200 drones and cruise missiles. However, most of the projectiles were shot down.
Israel 'launches missile attacks' on Iran's Isfahan
Earlier on Friday, explosions were heard over the Iranian city of Isfahan in what reports claimed was an Israeli attack. However, Tehran played down the incident and indicated no intentions of retaliation. The extent of Israel's strikes and the weapons used aren't clear, and there has been no immediate comment from the White House on the incident either. Isfahan houses a significant military air base and numerous Iranian nuclear facilities, including Natanz, a key site for Iran's uranium enrichment program.
