Explosion at a nuclear power station, France
An explosion at a nuclear power station in northwestern France left five injured but according to regional authorities, there are no nuclear risks. The explosion occurred at approximately 10 am local time in the machine room of the EDF Flamanville nuclear plant near the port of Cherbourg and the Channel Islands. Medical and emergency teams have been sent to the plant.
Not a nuclear accident
A senior regional official by the name of Olivier Marmion told the local media, "It is a significant technical event but it is not a nuclear accident." He also added that one of the plant's nuclear reactors had been shut down as a precautionary measure.
