France and 3 others support Arab-backed plan to rebuild Gaza
What's the story
Foreign ministers of France, Italy, Germany, and the UK have backed a $53 billion Arab-backed plan for the reconstruction of Gaza.
The plan aims to rebuild the territory without displacing its Palestinian inhabitants.
The proposal by Egypt has received support from other Arab leaders but has been rejected by Israel and US President Donald Trump.
Plan
Arab-backed reconstruction plan for Gaza
The Egyptian proposal involves an administrative committee of independent Palestinian technocrats to govern Gaza, after the end of the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
The suggested administrative committee would supervise humanitarian assistance and run Gaza's affairs on a temporary basis, under the supervision of the Palestinian Authority.

The foreign ministers of France, Germany, Italy, and the UK have pledged cooperation with this Arab initiative. They also appreciated the "important signal" sent by Arab countries. The ministers reiterated that Hamas "must neither govern Gaza nor be a threat to Israel any more."
Support
Arab leaders endorse Gaza reconstruction plan
Arab leaders have supported Egypt's Gaza reconstruction plan, said Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
The support came during an extraordinary Arab League summit on Tuesday, which saw several key figures in attendance.
El-Sisi said the plan preserves the Palestinian people's right to rebuild their homeland and ensures it remains on its land.
He also announced a Gaza reconstruction conference in Cairo next month.
Condemnation
Arab summit condemns Israel's decision to suspend aid
The Arab summit's closing statement condemned Israel's recent suspension of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
It warned against the displacement of Palestinians and the occupation of more Palestinian territories, calling it a "clear threat to the foundations of peace in the Middle East."
The statement also stressed the importance of implementing the phased Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement, including Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
