UK: 4 Indian-origin men sentenced for murder of delivery driver
Four Indian-origin men in their 20s have been sentenced to a combined 122 years in prison for the brutal murder of a 23-year-old delivery driver in the United Kingdom. The incident occurred in Shrewsbury, western England, in August last year. The victim, Aurman Singh, who was also of Indian heritage, was assaulted with an array of weapons. He was pronounced dead at the scene after West Mercia Police responded to reports of an attack in the Berwick Avenue area.
Details of the convicted men and their sentences
The convicted individuals are Arshdeep Singh and Jagdeep Singh from Dudley, along with Shivdeep Singh and Manjot Singh from Smethwick. Each has been sentenced to a minimum of 28 years in prison. A fifth man, Sukhmandeep Singh, believed to be an "insider," who informed the four men about Aurman's deliveries on the day of the murder, was sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter.
Chilling details of Aurman's murder revealed
During the sentencing hearing, the prosecution shared chilling details about Aurman's murder. He was struck in the head with an ax three times, one blow penetrating his brain. Additionally, he was hit on the head with a golf club so forcefully that its head broke off and the shaft bent. He was also attacked with a hockey stick and a wooden stave and stabbed in the back with such force that it cut through one of his ribs.
Judge's remarks on the severity of the crime
The severity of the attack was underscored by Judge Kristina Montgomery KC at Stafford Crown Court. She described it as "a horrifying brutality" and "a very public execution." The judge noted that Singh was left to die at the side of the road. Earlier during the trial, the police claimed there was no clear evidence to explain the motive for the brutal attack on Aurman.
