Florida: Man kills 2 at yoga studio, then shoots self
A shooter open fired at a yoga studio in Florida, United States, killing two people and injuring four others, before taking his life, reports said. The police received a call at 5:37 PM about victims at the Hot Yoga Studio situated at the upscale locality of Tallahassee. Police Chief Michael DeLeo told reporters students of the studio 'fought back'. Here's what went down.
Suspect and motive yet to be ascertained by authorities
The suspect or the victims have not been identified yet. DeLeo said authorities were speaking to anyone who saw something unusual. Initial reports suggest the shooter was acting alone, and the authorities are investigating the motive. The police also didn't comment on the gun used for the shooting. The condition of victims is still unclear, as per an AP report.
We are shocked by the events, DeLeo says
"We're all very saddened and shocked by the events that occurred, but it's important that people understand that there is no immediate threat outside of what has already occurred this evening," DeLeo said.
When shooter loaded gun, people pounded studio's windows
DeLeo said not only did the people fight back but tried to save others too. Melissa Hutchinson said she helped a 'profusely' bleeding man who rushed to the bar after being shot. "It was a shocking moment something happened like this," she said. Reportedly, when the shooter loaded his gun people started pounding the windows of the studio to warn others.
Mayor talks about no tolerance for gun violence
Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum tweeted, "I'm deeply appreciative of law enforcement's quick response to the shooting at the yoga facility in Tallahassee today." He added no form of gun violence is tolerated and he was in touch with authorities. This incident comes close to heels of shooting in Pittsburgh which left many Jews dead and was seen as an act of anti-semitism.
