World's first 'Vagina Museum' coming soon: Details here
After a penis museum in Iceland, the world is ready to explore the mysteries of female genitalia. London's Camden Market will be the home to the world's first 'Vagina Museum'. Florence Schechter, a comedian, science communicator and now a museum maker, came up with the idea in 2017 and has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise Rs. 2.7 crore to bring it to life.
Schechter wishes to break taboo and start a conversation
Schechter recently launched the campaign, and urged people to make donations for the cultural site. The goal is to start a conversation about one of the most mysterious and tabooed female body parts, and calm all the curiosity about vaginas, vulvas, uterus and general gynecological anatomy. (So, keep your questions ready.) The museum will also hold exhibitions, comedy nights and other cultural performances.
Donate Rs. 45L, and get a hall named after you
Liking the idea? You can also donate as much as you want to. If you donate Rs. 4,500, you will get one year membership, a private tour for Rs. 9,000 and a hall named after you with a donation of Rs. 45 lakh.
'Vagina Museum' to have no age-restriction, will conduct events
The 4,354sqft museum will conduct exhibitions about health, menstruation, sex, along with artwork paying homage to vagina and be a platform for discussion for thought leaders from medical profession, LGBTQ+ community among others. Along with that, there will be workshops and performances by artists, musicians and comedians. The museum will not have any age restrictions and will be open to kids as well.
'Our top priority is to fight the taboo'
"It is so important because this area of the body is so stigmatized and this has real world consequences. Our top priority is to fight the taboo that surrounds our bodies and provide a place where we can have open and honest conversation," says Schechter.
Exclusive gift shop, buy clitoris toy or Vagina museum tote
This is not all. The museum will also have its own gift shop where one can buy merchandise like crochet toys of the clitoris, Vagina Museum tote bag and other exciting things, as per media reports. If everything goes by the plan, the museum's first exhibition will open to the general public in November itself.
