US Congressman raises concern over 'rising attacks' on Hindu temples
United States's Congressman Shri Thanedar has expressed his concern over the increasing number of attacks on Hindu temples in the country. He has called upon law enforcement agencies to take immediate action. In a recent dialog with the Hindu community on Monday (local time), Thanedar highlighted what he perceives as an inadequate response from local law enforcement in investigating these incidents.
Congressman Thanedar introduces anti-Hinduphobia resolution
This interaction comes shortly after Thanedar introduced a resolution against Hinduphobia in the House of Representatives. This resolution condemns anti-Hindu bigotry, hate, and intolerance against the community. It has been referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. "It's time for us to seek support...local law enforcement hasn't taken enough action. We have not seen any suspects, any arrests...any resolution to these issues," he said while citing it as a reason for introducing the resolution in the US Congress.
Indian-American voices support for Anti-Hinduphobia resolution
Another Indian-American, Vijay Sadhawal has also expressed his concern over perceived bias from American media towards Hindus living in the US. He said that Thanedar's resolution is a crucial step towards raising awareness about issues faced by American Hindus. Sadhawal believes that the significant number of Hindu Americans can play a pivotal role in protecting minority rights in the country.
'Instruments of democracy biased against Hindu population'
"We have enough Hindu Americans in the country that can actually be a steering rod, so to speak, for protecting our minority rights in this country. Yet we see that the instruments of democracy, like the media, civil society, and NGOs, seem to be biased against the Hindu population of the United States," Sadhwal said. He also drew parallels to the attacks on Kashmiri Pandits after the 1990s and said that he "sees a tremendous similarity that serves the institutions."
