Ignore Musk's work review mail: Kash Patel tells FBI employees
What's the story
FBI Director Kash Patel has asked the bureau's employees to ignore a recent work review email announced by Elon Musk.
The email, sent by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), asked federal employees to summarize their weekly work in about five bullet points.
Musk introduced the measure in his capacity as an advisor to President Donald Trump to streamline government operations and cut costs.
Internal procedures
Patel assures FBI will conduct its own reviews
Patel, who recently took office as the FBI's ninth Director, has assured that the bureau will conduct its own reviews as per established procedures.
In an internal email, he advised staff to "pause any responses" until further notice.
He further clarified that all review processes would be overseen by the Office of the Director and coordinated responses would be arranged if necessary.
Widespread concerns
Musk's directive faces resistance from federal agencies
Musk's directive has faced pushback from multiple federal agencies and employees.
Many of these agencies have instructed their employees to refrain from responding until they receive further instructions.
The National Treasury Employees Union has also suggested a similar approach. A physician at the Department of Veterans Affairs feared that patient care could be affected because of this directive.
Ongoing efforts
Musk downplays requirements, continues initiative
Despite the pushback, Musk has downplayed the demands of his directive. He said "an email with some bullet points that make any sense at all is acceptable."
His initiative continues under the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) which seeks to audit federal agencies and cut government spending.
President Trump has voiced support for Musk's efforts but also urged him to take a more aggressive approach.
