How a Facebook selfie led cops to a murderer
Two years ago, Cheyenne Rose Antoine, now a 21-year-old, got into a heated argument with her friend Brittney Gargol, then 18. Later, Gargol was found dead near Saskatoon, Canada. What led cops to Antoine was a selfie of the two: a belt was found near Gargol's body, which Antoine was wearing in the photo. She pleaded guilty to the crime this week.
The murder and the attempts at a cover-up
On March 25, 2015, Gargol was found dead on a road. Initially, Antoine said they had gone to a house party, then some bars, after which they parted ways. She even posted on Gargol's Facebook page the next day: "Where are you? Haven't heard from you." But meanwhile, she had confessed to another friend, who tipped police off. The photo was a prime evidence.
Seven-year sentence after she pleads guilty to manslaughter
Apparently, Antoine, drunk and stoned, had an argument with Gargol. She ended up strangling her to death and says she doesn't remember the murder. She was initially charged with second-degree murder, but after pleading guilty to manslaughter, she was awarded a seven-year sentence. "I'll never forgive myself. Nothing I do will bring her back. I'm very, very sorry," Antoine said in a statement.
