Russian consulate in France attacked; Molotov cocktails thrown
What's the story
An explosion was heard at the Russian Consulate General in Marseille, France, early Monday morning on the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
According to local media reports, the consulate was attacked with Molotov cocktails by unidentified individuals.
Two of these incendiary devices were reportedly hurled into the consulate's garden around 7:30am local time.

Stolen vehicle found near explosion site, investigation underway
According to the Moscow Times, a stolen vehicle was found in the area of the explosion.
No injuries or damage have been reported so far.
Following the attack, some 30 firefighters and police officers were sent to the scene, according to French broadcaster BFMTV.
Maria Zakharova, Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, called the explosion a "terrorist act." She called on the French authorities to carry out a thorough investigation into this incident.

Zakharova said the incident has "all the hallmarks of a terrorist attack."
Although Marseille—France's second-largest city and a significant Mediterranean port—is home to a diverse population, it does not have a significant Russian community.
But since 2022, France has experienced a number of rallies against Russia's intervention in Ukraine, including demonstrations in Marseille, Paris, and others.
