US: Man kills friend during discussion on quitting alcohol
A 43-year-old man from Long Island, United States, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his friend during a heated argument. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Hamptons. The accused, Jeremy Allen, was taken into custody after police found the body of Christopher Hahn, also 43 years old, concealed under a tarp on Allen's back patio.
Brutal attack followed by attempted cleanup
The two guys were apparently drunk and chatting about their 12-step recovery plans when things turned violent. Prosecutors allege that Allen went after Hahn for six hours before fatally stabbing him in the head and neck with a big knife. Suffolk County prosecutor Elena Tomaro called the attack "brutal and heinous to watch."
Handyman discovers crime scene, alerts police
After the murder, Allen reportedly called up a local handyman to help him clean up. But when the handyman stumbled upon Hahn's bloody body, he quickly called the Southampton Town Police instead. The cops showed up just before 10:00am and declared Hahn dead. Allen was arrested around an hour later and was arraigned on Sunday without bail, because of his prior criminal history.
Allen's criminal history raises concerns
According to Allen's lawyer, the two guys were "pounding down drinks" before things turned violent. This incident has shone a spotlight on Allen's past, which includes a number of drunk driving offenses dating all the way back to 2007. Additionally, he's currently on probation for a drunken driving conviction in Ulster County from 2022 and is also dealing with a pending rape case in Southampton.
