Trump wanted ex-FBI director to investigate pee-tape to pacify wife
James Comey, former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), makes startling revelations in his book "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership," due to release on April 17. Several of them concern US President Donald Trump. However, one in particular claims that Trump wanted Comey to personally investigate the infamous pee-tape allegations to pacify First Lady, Melania Trump. Read on for more.
What is the pee tape?
In the book, Comey claims Trump was obsessed with proving to Melania that the pee-tape allegations on him were unverified. In January'17, BuzzFeed had published a dossier detailing Trump's alleged links with Russian agents. It also claimed that Kremlin had a tape dated 2013 showing Trump paying prostitutes to urinate on a bed at Moscow's Ritz-Carlton, which was once used by Barack Obama.
Comey's observations
Comey, in the book, says Trump repeatedly requested him to look into the matter even after he said a probe might "create a narrative that we were investigating him personally." He also found Trump's worrying over it awkward and that a wife should believe such a thing about her husband. Moreover, Comey hints that despite Trump's arguments, the allegations may not entirely be unfounded.
What else does 'A Higher Loyalty' talk about?
In the autobiography, Comey has written about the defining moments of his tenure as the seventh FBI director, including working with former President Obama, the 2016 US presidential election, Russia's alleged role in Trump's win. He has also written about FBI's probe of Clinton's emails, Comey's time with Trump after he moved to the White House and the months that led to his firing.
