Wish Hindus on Ramadan: Trump's Diwali-wish excludes Hindus, starts trollfest
What's the story
For someone who resides in White House, and is unarguably one of the most powerful people on earth, Donald Trump really loves giving fodder to his critics.
If the way he is handling the nation, the issues about crumbling White House, and (forced) resignations of top officials weren't enough, Trump showed once again how ignorant he is.
And this time he upset Indians.
Tweets
For Trump, Diwali is holiday of Buddhists, Sikhs and Jains
Trump celebrated Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, in White House, and later shared pictures of the event.
The first tweet about the event said that Diwali was 'holiday observed by Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jains', and didn't mention Hindus.
Soon enough, Trump tweeted, "It was my great honor to host a celebration of Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights", but the damage was done.

Ah, the horror of screenshots!
Trump's Twitter account posted a Diwali tweet that didn't mention Hindus, then deleted it, then... reposted it again with a different link but still no Hindus? pic.twitter.com/6zRqLzOA0r

Reactions
Naturally, the President got brutally trolled
That Hindus were missing from a wish of their much-awaited festival, was enough for Twitter to unleash their general knowledge classes on Trump.
Journalist Edward Luce tweeted: Don't forget to honor Hindus in their holy month of Ramadan.
While comedian Vir Das wrote: Someone wanna tell those excited Indians they Buddhists now? Can't wait for next year when the mormons celebrate Eid.

Speech to tweet
In speech, Trump 'remembered' it was a Hindu festival
Notably, Trump started his Diwali speech by saying, "I'm thrilled to be here for the celebration of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights."
But in his first tweet, the community did not find a mention.
Trump also spoke about the 'very very special people' who were present at the function with him.
He interrupted his speech to speak about California wildfires too.
Friend Modi
Trump calls India 'best negotiator' and PM Modi a friend
It is important to note that US-India relations have been rough recently, owing to Trump's constant attacks on India's tariffs.
At the function, he said India was 'the best negotiator' and a plan was being chalked out to improve trade relations.
"The US has deep ties to the nation of India and I am grateful for my friendship with Prime Minister Modi," Trump said.
