Donald Trump more popular than Taylor Swift, shows poll
A recent poll conducted by the New York Times/Philadelphia Inquirer/Siena College has found that former President Donald Trump is more popular than singer Taylor Swift. The survey, which sampled 2,437 likely voters across the United States from September 11-16, revealed that 44% of respondents had a favorable view of Swift. In contrast, Trump's favorability rating stood at 47%.
Swift's endorsement of Harris and voter perception
The poll was conducted shortly after Swift endorsed Democratic Party nominee Kamala Harris on Instagram on September 10. In her post, Swift praised Harris as a "steady-handed, gifted leader" and expressed support for her running mate Tim Walz's advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women's rights. The survey found that this endorsement did not significantly boost Swift's favorability among Republicans or independent voters.
Party affiliation influences voter perception of Swift
The poll also revealed a significant divide in perceptions of Swift based on party affiliation. Among Democrats, 70% viewed the singer favorably, while only 11% expressed an unfavorable view. In contrast, Republicans showed a much lower favorability rating for Swift at just 23%, with 60% viewing her unfavorably and 17% remaining undecided. Independent voters demonstrated a more moderate stance, with 41% having a favorable view of Swift, 32% unfavorable and 27% undecided.
Trump and Harris's favorability ratings in the poll
The same poll also measured the favorability ratings of political figures. Trump, despite his higher popularity compared to Swift, was viewed unfavorably by 51% of respondents. Vice President Kamala Harris's favorability was nearly split, with 48% of voters viewing her favorably and 49% unfavorably. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points, according to the New York Times.
