Netanyahu left bugging device in toilet: Boris claims in book
Former United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson has made a startling claim in his upcoming memoir, Unleashed. He alleges that Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli premier, left a listening device in his bathroom during a 2017 visit to Britain. At the time of this alleged incident, Johnson was serving as Britain's foreign minister.
Discovery of the alleged listening device
The alleged bugging device was discovered during a security sweep in Johnson's bathroom at the Foreign Office, as per his book. The bathroom, described by Johnson as suitable for "gents in a posh London club," is located within a "secret annex" of the foreign office premises. He wrote, "Thither Bibi repaired for a while...it may or may not be a coincidence but I am told that later...they found a listening device in the thunderbox."
Johnson's memoir raises eyebrows ahead of release
The Telegraph report said it was not clear whether the UK confronted Israel over the incident. Johnson's memoir, set to release on October 10, has already stirred controversy with its claims. One such claim suggests that Queen Elizabeth was suffering from bone marrow cancer. He also accused French President Emmanuel Macron of attempting to give the UK a "punishment beating" for Brexit.
Israel's history of alleged spying on allies
This is not the first time Israel has been accused of spying on friendly nations and allies. In 2019, reports suggested that Israeli operatives conducted a surveillance operation near the White House by tricking mobile phones into revealing their locations and identity information. However, these allegations were denied by Netanyahu at the time.
